DANVILLE, Ky. – The Kenyon College Lords soccer team applied early offensive pressure Saturday night and scored the game's first goal against Centre College. The host Colonels, however, booted in two second-half scores to win the tournament title in the 24th annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic.
Within the first 15 minutes of the game, Kenyon (2-2-0) racked up four shots and four corner kicks. One of those corners resulted in a goal. At the 10:16 mark, sophomore Jeremiah Barnes played the ball into the box. Senior Andrew Parmelee came up with it and put it into the back of the Centre net for his second goal of the season.
Kenyon continued to manage the pace of play, but could not come up with another score and went into the break content with a 1-0 advantage.
The second half of play was a different story. The Colonels (2-1-1) took control, outshot Kenyon, 10-3, and snuck two shots past freshman goalkeeper Sam Clougher, who ended up making six saves on the night.
Centre's first goal unfolded about 12 minutes into the second half. Jacob Winkler scored off an assist from George Laventis. The Colonels' second goal, the game-winner, didn't find the Kenyon net until there was a little more than three minutes left in regulation. This time is was Jack Goblirsch scoring off an assist from Jeremy Carlson.
