For the second straight season, the Lords will head to Delaware, Ohio to take on the No. 21-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament title game. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
One year ago, Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan met in the NCAC championship game and the host Battling Bishops, ranked No. 1 at the time, came away with a 3-1 victory. Ian O'Keefe, Peter Jacobi, and Colton Bloecher all scored goals for Ohio Wesleyan, while Alistair  Flynn netted Kenyon's lone goal.
More recently, the two teams met at Mavec Field on October 21 and came away with a scoreless tie. That result put the all-time series between the two squads at 54-11-10 in favor of Ohio Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops also hold the edge in the all-time NCAC postseason series with Kenyon. The two teams met three previous times in the conference tournament. Ohio Wesleyan won twice (2013, 2008) and also advanced on penalty kicks after a scoreless tie (2012).
Ohio Wesleyan is once again the tournament's top seed and enters the final with a 15-3-2 record. The Battling Bishops delivered a 3-2 win over DePauw University in the semifinal round. Bloecher had a goal and an assist in the game. Kenyon, now 16-1-1 and the tournament's No. 2-seeded team, made it to the tournament final after eliminating Wabash College, 3-0, in its semifinal contest. Sophomore
Tony Amolo rang up two goals for the Lords in that game.
Amolo leads the Lords, as well as the NCAC, with 15 goals and 33 points through 18 games. He sets the tone for a well-balanced Kenyon offense that averages 2.61 goals per game. Behind Amolo, Kenyon has six other players, including
Jordan Glassman with seven, who have scored three or more goals this season. Defensively, the Lords may be even stronger. Seniors
Grant Carney,
Logan Ernst,
Sam Justice, and
Cameron Scott head up a unit that has allowed just four goals all season. The Lords rank first in the nation in goals against average (0.22) and shutout percentage (0.78). Sophomore goalkeeper
Sam Clougher has only had to make 42 saves throughout the season and his 13 shutout wins are a new Kenyon single-season record.
Bloecher is the Battling Bishops' go-to guy and the 2013 NCAC Player of the Year. He has 13 goals, three assists, and 29 points this season. Brian Schaefer is also a scoring threat for OWU. He'll enter Saturday's game with 10 goals, three assists, and 23 points for the Bishops offense that averages 2.15 goals per game. Ohio Wesleyan, which has won the last seven NCAC regular-season championships, also averages 0.80 goals against per game. Goalkeeper Colin Beemiller has made 67 saves and has recorded eight shutouts this season.
