OBERLIN, Ohio – Amidst paltry weather conditions plaguing the area, the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team struggled finding the back of the net in its 14-6 loss to Oberlin College. The Yeowomen continued their undefeated season after pouring on eight goals in the second half to break away from the Ladies.
There was no shortage of scoring attempts for the Ladies, especially in the first half where they outshot the Yeowomen 17-11. However, Oberlin goaltender Alexa L'Insalata made seven stops to keep her team's two-goal advantage intact going into halftime.
Kenyon (6-2, 0-1 NCAC) featured four different goal scorers to account for its first-half score, while Oberlin's Grace Barlow and Suzanna Doak both scored twice. Once the second half began, it was all Oberlin.
Barlow began a run of six unanswered goals for the Yeowomen while a player down, helping them break away once and for all. After Doak and Amy Morgan swapped goals coming out of the break, Oberlin (5-0, 1-0 NCAC) ran out to a 13-5 lead with 12 minutes remaining on the clock.
Kenyon's offense was slowed by Oberlin's increased offensive tempo, mustering 10 shots in the second half but only scoring twice. After Morgan's goal five minutes into the second stanza, the Ladies did not score again until there were five minutes remaining when Alex Bair scored for a second time. L'Insalata made six more saves in the second half, totaling 13 in the match.
Doak and Barlow led both teams by scoring four goals apiece. Standing in their way, Meredith Bentsen made eight saves, four in each half.
The Ladies will play their first conference game at home in their next action on April 1 against Wittenberg University. Game time against the Tigers is set for 4:30 p.m. at Mavec Field.
