WOOSTER, Ohio – The Kenyon College Ladies lacrosse team started its conference contest at The College of Wooster with a three-goal blitz that covered a span of just 2:26. That frenzied pace quickly died out, however, and the host Fighting Scots took over en route to a 17-9 win.

Kenyon senior Kate Lang, who had a team-high three goals, scored twice in that opening rush. Her goals sandwiched one from fellow senior Lara McMahon, giving Kenyon an opening 3-0 lead. Wooster then responded with four straight goals, two by Shelby Stone, and claimed a 4-3 advantage with 18:02 still left in the first half.

Another Kenyon senior, Alex Bair, stopped the Wooster streak with her first of two goals in the game. At that point, the contest was still anyone's to win and Wooster made the push that it needed to do just that. The Fighting Scots (3-7, 3-3 NCAC) reeled off five of the game's next six goals and headed to halftime with a 9-5 cushion.

Not quite out of it yet, Kenyon looked to Amy Morgan, yet another senior, who fired in the first goal of the second half. That put the Ladies within three, but they would get no closer. Wooster went on to wrap up the win by outshooting (14-12) and outscoring Kenyon (8-4) over the final 30 minutes.

The Ladies' downfall seemed to occur closest to the cages. Offensively, they took 11 free position shots, but made good on just four. Defensively, the Ladies' goalkeepers struggled to come up with saves. Of Wooster's 31 shots, 23 were on goal. Of those 23 shots on goal, 17 found their way into the back of the net. Stone was responsible for three of those goals, while Abby Szlachta also scored three. Behind those two, Wooster had four players ring up two goals apiece.

For Kenyon (8-5, 2-4 NCAC), Bair followed up on Lang's trio of goals with two goals of her own, as well as one assist. Bair is now tied with Caroline Shipman for the team lead in goals (35), assists (12), and points (47). Shipman, like McMahon, Morgan, and Ansen Burr, scored once against the Fighting Scots.

Kenyon has two more games left on its schedule and will try to turn things around starting Wednesday at home against rival Denison University. The season finale will then be held Saturday, also at home, against DePauw University.
