GAMBIER, Ohio – Playing its final game of the 2014 season, the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team closed out the campaign in style. Saturday afternoon at Mavec Field, eight different Ladies scored goals and Kenyon ran away with a 17-5 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over the visiting DePauw University Tigers.
The victory was the last for a group of eight Kenyon seniors, who helped the program post a combined 38-20 record over the last four seasons. The victory also finalized Kenyon's 2014 records at 9-6 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
Many of the Kenyon seniors played significant roles against DePauw (3-10, 2-6 NCAC).
Amy Morgan led the way with four goals, while
Alex Bair chipped in with three. Bair's output kept her atop the Ladies' season scoring chart with 43 goals, 14 assists, and 57 points. Morgan didn't finish far behind, as she closed out her final year with 32 goals, 11 assists, and 43 points.
Kate Lang, another Kenyon senior, scored twice against DePauw. She also had three draw controls and a couple of groundballs.
Susie Gurzenda added to the senior class stats with two more goals and a game-high nine groundballs. Those nine groundballs gave her a team-best 40 for the season.
One final goal from the Ladies' senior class came from defender
Lara McMahon. Aside from the soon-to-be graduates, Kenyon received two goals and an assist from both sophomore
Ansen Burr and freshman
Allie McLane. Freshman
Abby Coleman contributed a goal and sophomore
Kelley Russell chalked up a pair of assists.
Kenyon actually gave up the first two goals of the game. The Ladies, however, burned a timeout, regrouped, and got back on track. After the pause in action, the Kenyon women returned to the field, rattled off nine straight goals, and marched into halftime with a commanding 9-2 lead. The Tigers never got closer than six goals the rest of the way.
The Ladies offense outshot DePauw 36-21 and the defense forced the Tigers into 19 turnovers and nine failed clears. In goal for Kenyon, junior
