Senior Rachel Hall scored the lone goal in the Ladies' season-opening win against
the Centre College Colonels.
DANVILLE, Ky. – A second-half goal from senior Rachel Hall propelled the Kenyon College field hockey team to a season-opening 1-0 win at Centre College on Saturday afternoon.  It was the first season-opening win for the Ladies since the 2007 season and it came against a Colonels team that posted a 16-5 mark and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament one season ago.

The Ladies defense was solid throughout the game. It did yield 14 shots to Centre, but only two of those shots were on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Speroff saved both those shots on goal and registered a shutout in her collegiate debut.

The Kenyon goal was scored in the game's 59th minute. Following a penalty corner, the Ladies pinned the ball deep in Centre territory. Hall eventually found a way to get it past Colonels goalkeeper Kirby Roberts, who saw 10 Kenyon shots and made four saves. Hall's classmate, Julie Freedman, was credited with the assist on the play.

The Ladies will remain on Centre's campus and take on the Sewanee Tigers in a neutral-site game that starts at noon Sunday.
