PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Kenyon College men's soccer team, ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division III, opened the 2014 season Saturday with a 3-0 trouncing of the No. 18-ranked Tartans from Carnegie Mellon University. The game was a part of the two-day, four-team CMU DoubleTree Invitational held at CMU Soccer Field.

Three different Lords accounted for the goals. In the game's 31st minute, sophomore Dalton Eudy fed a pass to junior Jeremiah Barnes. From the left side of the box, Barnes unleashed a shot that sailed past CMU goalkeeper Jacob Rice and hit twine high into the center of the net.

Eighteen seconds later, Rice drew a yellow card for a foul in the box and gave the Lords an opportunity for a penalty kick. Sophomore Tony Amolo took the honors, teed up the ball, and zipped it past Rice for a 2-0 Kenyon lead.

Throughout the first half, Kenyon delivered seven shots. The Tartans managed five, but two were off line and Kenyon sophomore goalkeeper Sam Clougher saved the other three.

When play resumed in the second half, Kenyon didn't waste much time in upping its lead. Less than three minutes after the break, senior Rei Mitsuyama scored off an assist from Amolo and put Kenyon's lead at three.

Clougher went on the make one more save in the second half and the Lords defense held the Tartans to a total of just four shots over the final 45 minutes of play.

The Lords now look ahead to Sunday and their final match of the CMU DoubleTree Invitational. That contest will be held at noon against LaRoche College, a 1-0 winner over Otterbein University earlier in the day.
