Christine Bloom scored the game-winner in Kenyon's 2-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan
University on Sunday. It was her second goal in as many games.DELAWARE, Ohio – With Sunday afternoon's 2-0 victory at Ohio Wesleyan University, the Kenyon College field hockey team boosted its overall season record to 7-1. That mark ties the program's best start since both the 1997 and 2006 teams accomplished the same feat in their first eight games.
Additionally, the win was the Ladies' fifth straight and gave the Purple and White a 4-0 North Coast Athletic Conference record, which is good for sole possession of first place in the nine-team conference standings.
Kenyon did all of its damage against Ohio Wesleyan (3-4, 1-3 NCAC) in the first half of play. It actually took the Ladies just 71 seconds to score their first goal. At that point, senior
Rachel Hall unleashed a shot toward the Ohio Wesleyan cage. As it neared the line, junior
Christine Bloom redirected the shot and tallied her second goal in as many games.
Fifteen seconds before the half could come to a close, the Ladies tacked on an insurance goal. This one came off a penalty corner and senior
Julie Freedman was the one who fired it home. It was her second goal of the season.
Defensively, the Kenyon women yielded just four shots to Ohio Wesleyan. Freshman goalkeeper
Sarah Speroff had to make just two saves to record her second collegiate shutout. She now has a 1.29 goals against average to go along with 33 saves on the season.Â
