Ladies hoping third time’s a charm at Wooster

Ladies coach Jacque DeMarco will take her team to Wooster on October 31 for
an NCAC Tournament semifinal matchup. It is Kenyon's sixth straight
season competing in the conference's four-team tourney.

GAMBIER, Ohio – After attaining the third seed for the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, the Kenyon College field hockey team will venture to The College of Wooster for a semifinal matchup on Wednesday.

Kenyon went 9-8 overall, 8-6 in the NCAC, and fell to the Fighting Scots by scores of 3-2 and 2-1 during the season.

This is the fifth, all-time meeting in tournament play between the two teams. Each has won twice, but Wooster claimed the last two wins (2008, 2010).

The Ladies are bringing a three-game losing streak into the affair. Despite that, Kenyon is more than capable of notching a road victory. Tara Shetty paced the way offensively this year, notching a team-high 16 points on six goals and four assists. Additionally, Molly Keen and Olivia O'Connell have scored four and three goals, respectively.

Defensively, goalie Suzy Deems has played in 12 games with 11 starts and posted six shutouts. She currently ranks second in the NCAC with a 0.99 goals against average and .810 save percentage.

Wooster finished the regular season with a 14-5 record including a 10-4 mark in the NCAC. That helped the Fighting Scots earn the second seed and qualify for its first tournament since 2013.

The Fighting Scots have two of the top-four goal scorers in the NCAC. Sydney Schuster, who scored both goals in Wooster's last game versus Kenyon, tallied a league-high 20 this season. Caitlyn O'Connor added 15, while Maeven Barry assisted on seven, a total that's tied for second in the NCAC. Wooster had the top-scoring offense in the NCAC this season, scoring 67 goals and averaging 3.5 per game.

In goal for the Fighting Scots is Katie Shideler. She started 18 contests and led the NCAC with a .840 save percentage. She also posted three shutouts and had the third-best goals against average mark (1.34) in the conference.

The third matchup between these teams should be close again. An element that could go the Ladies' way is experience. Eleven of Kenyon's 17 matches played this year were decided by one goal. Plus, Kenyon has seven players who have seen previous postseason action, while Wooster has none.

As mandated by the NCAC, tickets for Wednesday's semifinal game are $7 for adults and $3 for children (18 years of age and under). Any NCAC student with a valid ID from an NCAC institution will be admitted free of charge.
