Senior David Kim and the Lords will travel back to Case Western Reserve on November
16 for a rematch with the Spartans in the NCAA Tournament third round. Case
was the only team to beat and shut out the Lords this year.

GAMBIER, Ohio – Coming off an overtime win in the NCAA Tournament's second round, the No. 10 Kenyon men's soccer team will travel to Cleveland on November 16 for a third-round match against No. 19 Case Western Reserve University. The Spartans were the only team to hand the Lords a loss this year, and that came on September 26 at DiSanto Field by a 3-0 score.
Kenyon advanced into its fifth "Sweet 16" appearance in the last six seasons after rallying past Carnegie Mellon University, 2-1, on November 11 at Mavec Field. After
Sam Carson tied the match with 34 seconds remaining,
Sam Hosmer-Quint headed home a shot with about a minute left in the first overtime to push Kenyon into the next weekend.
That victory bolstered the Lords' record to 18-1-2 and unbeaten streak to 12 matches (11-0-1).
Friday's 5 o'clock game versus the Spartans at DiSanto Field will mark the first-ever meeting in the NCAA Tournament between the two institutions. In the NCAC era, Kenyon has a 13-5-2 series advantage over Case. However, the Spartans have won two of the last three meetings.
The Lords bring in one of the most complete teams in the nation against CWRU. Kenyon ranks seventh in scoring average (3.43) and ninth in team goals against average (.504). Only three other teams possess those top-nine national marks.
Leading the way offensively is North Coast Athletic Conference Midfielder of the Year
David Anderson. He has scored 12 times and added two assists. He is not alone though, as 13 other players have scored multiple goals including seven for
Brice Koval and six for
Philippe Stengel.
Defensively, Kenyon has been strong as of late, allowing just five goals in the last 12 matches while giving up a mere 5.4 shots per game. Leading the back line is NCAC Defender of the Year
Bret Lowry. He is joined by All-NCAC selections
Greg McNeer and
David Kim, along with Hosmer-Quint. In goal is
Ian McInturf who possesses the 11th-best goals against average mark in the nation (.519).
The Spartans defeated Capital University 3-0 in the second round this past weekend. Under the direction of Coach Brandon Bianco, Case has attained a 16-3-1 record this year after competing in the tough University Athletic Association. One of the team's wins came against top-ranked University of Chicago on October 14.
Leading on the scoring front are All-UAA First-Team selections Zachary Senft and Alex Besl. Those two have combined for 19 goals and 11 assists. Additionally, junior midfielder Garrett Winter, an honorable mention selection, has tallied nine goals and six assists.
In goal is freshman Charlie Fink. The All-UAA Honorable Mention selection has posted a 0.86 goals against average, a save percentage of .785 and six shutouts.
The winner of this match will move on to play the winner of No. 4 Calvin College and Penn State Behrend on the 17
th at 7 p.m.
Ticket prices for entry are $6 for general admission, $3 for students with college ID and senior citizens, and $2 for children aged 3-12. Children under the age of three will be admitted free.
