– For the sixth time in the last seven seasons, the Kenyon College men's soccer team will square off with archrival Ohio Wesleyan University in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament final.
The top two programs in the NCAC will meet on November 9 at 1 p.m. at Mavec Field. A season ago, Kenyon blasted OWU, winning 4-0 to capture its fourth tournament championship in the previous five years.
Saturday's affair is expected to be much closer as the two teams previously met in Delaware on October 16 with the match ending in a 1-1 tie.
Kenyon (16-1-2) is coming off a 5-1 win in the semifinal round against Oberlin College.
Scott Upton had two goals while
Jack Cohen and
Atli Hrafnkelsson each tallied one goal and one assist. On the other bench, the Battling Bishops got some revenge against Wabash College as they won 1-0 on a goal from Joe Brush.
Hrafnkelsson is Kenyon's leading scorer with eight goals while Upton has contributed seven. As a unit, the Lords are 13th in the nation in scoring average (2.95) and 16th in assists per game (2.37). The Lords have been on fire recently, scoring 14 goals the last three matches. Defensively, Kenyon is a handful, too, ranking in the top-30 with a .712 goals against average mark. In net is junior
Ian McInturf who is 15-1-2 this year while posting a .809 save percentage.
Ohio Wesleyan (13-4-3) brings one of the best defenses in the country into the match. As a team, it ranks second with a GAA of .429. The Battling Bishops have yielded just nine goals all season while keepers J.P. Baughman and Chase Agin have save percentages of .875 and .920, respectively. Offensively, Brady Whittend has scored eight times while Ryan Roberts has added seven. Additionally, midfielder Hector Gomez leads the NCAC with nine assists.
As mandated by the league office, tickets for Saturday's match are $7 for adults and $3 for children (18 and under). NCAC students with a valid institution ID will be admitted free of charge. Live coverage of the game can be
