GAMBIER, Ohio -- Jill McCartney, Kenyon's Director of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation, announced today the hiring of Morgan Brozena as the head coach of the Ladies field hockey program. Brozena is the 13th head coach in the Ladies' 49-year history and she succeeds Jacque Demarco, who departed after nine seasons and a combined 111-47 record.
"I am incredibly excited and grateful to be named head coach for the Kenyon field hockey program. I want to thank Jill McCartney, Kelly Bryan and the entire search committee for this opportunity to lead the Ladies," Brozena said. "Kenyon is dedicated to providing students the ability to excel both academically and athletically. The Ladies have a long history of success in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and I am quite optimistic that we will continue that this season and into the future."Â
For the past year, Brozena worked as head coach at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the Falcons did not play a varsity schedule and were limited to just a pair of scrimmages.
Prior to her time at Cedar Crest, Brozena worked at NCAA Division II University of New Haven. She was the graduate assistant in 2017 and then promoted to assistant coach for the following two seasons. She played an integral part in the program's development, as the Chargers took to the field for their first varsity season in 2017.
"Morgan's enthusiasm is infectious and her willingness to seek out greater challenges says a lot about her capacity for growth and achievement," McCartney said. "Kenyon field hockey has set high standards for competition and I am confident that Coach Brozena will build on that success."
Brozena, a native of Telford, Pennsylvania, specializes in goalkeeper work. During her playing days at Washington and Jefferson College, she was the Presidents starting goalkeeper for three seasons. She logged more than 3,000 minutes in 46 contests, cranking out a 25-18 career record with a dozen shutouts and 219 career saves, a total that ranks second all-time in program history.
After receiving her bachelor's degrees in French and international studies, Brozena kick started her collegiate coaching career for one season as an assistant at Wittenberg University, a fellow member of the NCAC. Her resume also includes experience as a coach with the HTC Field Hockey Club in Madison, Connecticut, as well as with the High Styx Field Hockey Club in Reading, Pennsylvania.   Â
At New Haven, Brozena earned her master's degree in sports management before moving on to Cedar Crest.
"We are very excited to have Morgan join our athletic department and be part of our family." said Bryan, Kenyon's Assistant Athletics Director who chaired the search committee. "She is incredibly personable, has a passion for field hockey and has a great vision for this program. Morgan will continue the proud tradition of excellence with our student-athletes on the field, in the classroom and in the community."
