DELAWARE, Ohio -- It took just one swing of the stick Wednesday night for the Kenyon College Ladies, who rang up a 1-0 field hockey victory in the season opener at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The game's lone goal came from Kenyon senior Sarah Metzmaier, who scored it off a penalty corner in the game's tenth minute. Sophomore Hannah Paprotna inbounded the ball from the end line. It reached Metzmaier at the top of the circle, where she faked a move to the right and then cut left around her defender. She made a short run to pull closer to the cage and then fired her shot home.

The goal was the 24th in Metzmaier's Kenyon career. It also helped newly-hired Head Coach Morgan Brozena earn her first win with the Ladies' program.

At the other end of the field, junior goalkeeper Payton Doan had to make just two saves to record her eighth career shutout.

In all, the Ladies outshot the Battling Bishops, 15-7. They posted a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners, as well.

Up next for the Kenyon women is a Saturday trip to Washington and Lee University for a noon contest with the Generals.
