Soric sets triple jump standard at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- A handful of Kenyon College student-athletes participated in Saturday's Wittenberg University Tiger Collegiate Opener, an unscored indoor track and field meet.

Kenyon ended up with four individual top-10 placements. Leading the way for the Owls was sophomore Paula Soric, who generated two event wins. She placed first in the triple jump with a leap that measured 37-7 ¾ (11.47 meters). That mark edged her previous Kenyon record, which was 37-7 ¼ (11.46 meter) set at last season's North Coast Athletic Conference Championship.

Soric also placed first in the long jump, topping 22 other jumpers by turning in a winning measurement of 17-9 (5.41 meters). In the same event, Kenyon senior Erika Conant claimed seventh place, posting a best jump of 15-11 ¾ (4.87 meters).

Additionally, Soric took an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 8.64 seconds.

Conant then went on to record a 12th-place finish in the high jump, as she cleared 4-6 ¾ (1.39 meters) and also tacked on a 12th-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 10.56.

The Owls' other top-10 finish came from junior Grace Neuger. She placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles, completing the event in a time of 10.08.

In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Logan Vidal finished 12th with a time of 1:03.14 and senior Denna Medrano placed 15th, stopping the clock at 1:04.58.

In the 800-meter run it was first-year Sadie Wayne who turned in a 12th-place showing. She crossed the finish line in 2:53.81.

Relay competition saw the Kenyon team of Medrano, Francesca Berntsen, Mary Shawaker and Vidal clock in at 4:25.53 to take sixth place.
