Relay teams highlight Kenyon’s All-Ohio results

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's indoor track and field team sent qualifiers to the annual All-Ohio Championship, which was held Saturday at Wittenberg University. The Owls wound up tallying 16 points and finished 11th in the final team standings.

Kenyon's top performance of the day came from its 4,000-meter distance medley relay team of Anna Brown, Denna Medrano, Lorien Kauffman, and Ella Wilson. They completed the race in 13:14.83 for a second-place spot and eight points toward the Owls' team total. That time was four seconds faster than their previous season-best.

Another Kenyon relay, the 4x200-meter, claimed eighth place and gained one more point for the Owls. That foursome include Paula Soric, Grace Neuger, Erika Conant, and Maya Virdell. They clocked in at 1:53.72, also a season-best.

Finally, the Owls' third relay team of Medrano, Brown, Virdell, and Logan Vidal, took an eighth-place finish in the 4x400-meter race. That quartet clocked in at 4:22.06.

In field events, Conant, a senior, delivered a third-place finish in the long jump, netting six team points. Her best effort measured 16-5 ¼ (5.01 meters), which topped her previous career-best of 16-1 ¾ (4.92 meters).

Virdell chalked up some personal-bests away from relay competition, as well. She finished ninth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.34 and then tacked on an 11th-place run in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.83.

Neuger finished just outside of a scoring position, too, finishing 11th in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time of 9.92 checked out as a personal season-best.

Other Kenyon athletes who just missed scoring, but turned in notable performances included Brown and Vidal, who finished 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Brown finished in 1:03.50 and Vidal stopped the clock at 1:03.89.

Earlier in the meet, Eras Yager placed 12th in the shot put. Her best toss covered 34-7 ¾ (10.56 meters).

University of Mount Union wound up winning the All-Ohio with 145.5 points. Host Wittenberg was second with 110 points and Case Western Reserve University was third with 80 points.
