Owls well represented on Academic All-District Team

GAMBIER, Ohio -- College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced Wednesday the names of those student-athletes honored with a spot on the 2023 Academic All-District NCAA Division III Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team. Among the honorees were Kenyon College's Erika Conant, Alice Riley, Paula Soric, Ella Wilson, and Eras Yager.

To be eligible for the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete had to be a starter or important reserve who competed in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. The student-athlete had to be on the team's active roster for at least two years and, most importantly, had to possess at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Each NCAA Division III member institution was allotted five nominees.

Conant, a senior who recently graduated after majoring in both biochemistry and Spanish, competed in a variety of track and field events for the Owls. Throughout the indoor season she set personal records in the long jump, shot put, and the 200-meter dash. During the outdoor season, she rang up personal bests in the triple jump, the 800-meter run, the high jump, and the heptathlon. Her point total in the heptathlon at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship gained her an All-Region honor from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Switching over to cross country, Riley, another senior, was a standout runner for the Owls. She rang up a personal-best 4k time in the 2022 season-opening meet and, later, went on to claim an individual ninth-place finish and all-conference honors at the NCAC Championship. Riley graduated two weeks ago after majoring in history.

Soric, who just completed her sophomore campaign, is one of the more decorated student-athletes within the Owls track and field program. During this past season, she set indoor and outdoor Kenyon records for the triple jump and was tabbed the NCAC's Field MVP for both seasons. She owns six career All-NCAC honors, four career All-Region honors, and was named a 2022 USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete. In the classroom, Soric double majors in neuroscience and psychology.

Wilson, like Riley, was a senior distance specialist. During the cross country season, she set a personal best in the All-Ohio 5k race. During the track seasons, she competed in 11 events and never placed outside of the top ten. She hit a personal record on the indoor mile and then registered another top time in the outdoor 10,000-meter run. Additionally, Wilson, a Goldwater Scholar who majored in math, gained an All-NCAC nod for her performance on the Owls indoor distance medley relay team.

Yager, another recent graduate, focused her athletic prowess in the throwing pits. During the indoor track and field season, she hit a personal best in the weight throw. Then, during the outdoor schedule, she finished her collegiate career with personal bests in the discus, shot put, and hammer throw. Yager, who majored in biology, also played three full seasons with the Kenyon volleyball team.
