Pair of Kenyon tennis alums win national awards

TEMPE, Ariz. -- With Wednesday's release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national awards, Kenyon College had two former players win NCAA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year awards. Kevin Ye '13 was named the ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year for women's tennis and Wade Heerboth '15 was tabbed the ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year for men's tennis.

Ye, who has been working with the Emory University women's program for nearly ten years, was hired as a full-time assistant this past season. During the season, Ye helped the Eagles to a 14-7 record, a runner-up spot in the University Athletic Association Tournament and a run through the NCAA Division III Tournament that netted a spot in the semifinal round. The Eagles finished the season with a No. 6 national rank.

Heerboth has been serving as a volunteer assistant coach with the Case Western Reserve University men's program for the past seven seasons. The 2023 campaign ended for Heerboth and the Spartans with a 33-4 record and the NCAA Division III national title. The Spartans were undefeated against Division III teams, won the ITA Indoor Championship, and claimed the No. 1 spot in the final ITA national ranking.

While at Kenyon, Heerboth and Ye were teammates for two seasons, including the 2012 season in which Kenyon made it to the NCAA Tournament final. Heerboth, a two-time All-American, finished his Kenyon career with an 89-30 singles record and an 83-20 doubles record. Ye wound up with a 34-26 singles record and a 60-26 doubles mark.
