Greville soars, Orth rewrites record at Steemer

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Kenyon College's men's indoor track and field team set course south towards Springfield on Saturday for the annual Steemer Showcase, hosted by Wittenberg University. The Owls competed in 10 of 16 and scored seven points as a team.

Two field athletes, Riley Orth and Josh Greville, highlighted Kenyon's performances for the day. Orth scored four of the team's points in one event and broke a College record in another, while Greville was responsible for scoring the Owls' first three points of the outing.

Orth was outstanding for a second straight weekend. The senior started the day by breaking a program record in the weight throw, rewriting his own record set a week prior. He recorded a toss that measured 14.29 meters (46-10), surpassing his 14.19-meter (46 - 6 ¾) mark at the Fighting Scots Invitational. After placing 17th in the weight throw, Orth ended the day with a fifth-place finish in the shot put that added four points to Kenyon's total. His best attempt measured 14.72 meters (48-3 ½).

Greville got the Owls scoring going early with a strong showing in the triple jump. The sophomore's longest leap measured 12.75 meters (41-10), which was just short of the 12.83-meter (41-1 ¼) personal-best mark he hit at Wittenberg a few weeks ago on December 3. Greville's distance was suitable for sixth place and three points towards the team tally.

On the track, Sam Rabieh registered Kenyon's best result, a ninth-place showing in the 5,000 meter run. The junior clocked in at 15:28.31 in the meet's longest race, setting a personal best in the process.

Two other Owls cracked the top 15 during the day. Back in field events, Ezekiel Kiwanuka landed in 14th in the long jump. The sophomore covered 6.34 meters (20-9 ¾), a personal best. Fellow sophomore Dylan Sibbitt secured a personal best of his own in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.07 that ranked 14th.

NCAA Division II Tiffin University took the team title after tallying 150.5 points. The hosting Wittenberg Tigers secured second with 77 points, and Cedarville University, another DII institution, rounded out the top three with 55 points.

Kenyon will be back on the road again next week when the Owls take the short trip to Granville, Ohio, to participate in the Bob Shannon Invitational at Denison University.
