GAMBIER, Ohio -- Grace Neuger competed in the pentathlon for the first time in her collegiate career when Kenyon College hosted the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) combined events on Sunday. The senior secured an 11th-place finish at day's end, tallying 2,078 points over the five events.
Neuger opened the day with the contest in which she has competed the most throughout her career, the hurdles. In this 60-meter iteration, she stopped the clock at 10.42, finishing eighth in the field of 11.
After running the event she is most known for, Neuger turned her attention to field events and quickly posted her best finish of the day. She cleared a height of 1.31 meters (4-3 ½) that tied for the seventh-best mark. The finish and jump were also career-bests for Neuger as it marked her first recorded high jump competition.
In the next field event, the shot put, her best toss landed 6.91 meters (22-8) out. The mark, which came on her first attempt, was just short of the personal-best mark of 7.06 meters (23-2) she managed on Friday night at the Kenyon Tune Up meet. Neuger landed in 11th in the final field event, the long jump. Competing in the event for the first time since 2022, she registered a 4.09-meter (13-5) leap on her third and final jump.
The pentathletes returned to the track to take on the 800-meter race to close the competition. Neuger crossed the finish line with a time of 3:00.01, which went down as another personal high-water mark after running the race for the first time.
With the women's side of the combined events in the books, Neuger and the Owls will look ahead to next weekend's NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Kenyon plays host for a second straight week, and the two-day competition begins at noon on Friday, February 23, on the Toan Indoor Track.
