Owls prepare for conference championship

GAMBIER, Ohio – This weekend, the Kenyon College women's indoor track and field team will compete in the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships from Barrett A. Toan Indoor Track inside Kenyon's Lowry Center.

The championship is being held over three days and two weekends, as the pentathlon took place on Sunday. Results of the pentathlon carry over to the upcoming weekend, when the rest of the championship events will take place on Friday and Saturday.

Going into the weekend, the Owls drew a rank of seventh in the NCAC pre-championship coaches poll. Wittenberg University (64) topped the poll with 64 points and was followed by DePauw University (55) and Ohio Wesleyan University (47).

Based on season-long conference times and distances, the Kenyon women have numerous chances to score points in the multi-day championship.

In the field, the standout selection is Paula Soric, competing in the long jump and the triple jump. Soric holds the fourth-best mark in the conference (5.17 meters) in the long jump, and recorded the best leap of any conference competitor in the triple jump (11.74 meters), besting the second-place jumper by over a meter. She looks to add to her 2023 NCAC Field Athlete of the Year selection and two conference crowns from last season.

Sophomore Anna Brown will headline the mid-distance events for the Owls. She will be the conference's No. 10 seed in the 400-meter (1:01.90), the fourth seed in the mile (5:17.82), and second seed in the 800-meter (2:20.86), an event she recently won at the All-Ohio Championship earlier this month.

Brown will also compete in the 4x400-meter relay along with teammates Caeleigh Stamper, Rigby Zentner, and Lorien Kauffman as the conference's sixth seed (4:17.71). That same trio will compete without Brown and add Amelia Sims in the Distance Medley Relay, an event in which that group earned the fifth seed (13:34.48).

In the distance events, Olivia Ide earned Kenyon's highest position, coming in as the ninth seed in the 3,000-meter race with a 10:46.05 season-best time.

The championship meet will begin Friday with field events at noon. Day two will commence at 10 a.m. with the rest of the field events. The track events will start at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and 2:15 p.m. on Saturday
.

Ticket prices for the event are $5 for adults, and $3 for children (18 and under), while NCAC students with a valid student ID are admitted for free. A two-day pass is also available. That runs $10 for adults and $6 for children (18 and under).
