Owls win twice on day two, Soric earns NCAC honor

GAMBIER, Ohio – Junior jumper Paula Soric and senior mid/distance runner Lorien Kauffman won conference titles for the Kenyon College women's indoor track and field team on day two of the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships from Barrett A. Toan Indoor Track inside Kenyon's Lowry Center.

Soric notched the Owls' first title of the day in the triple jump, and she certainly impressed. Even though four of her six jumps were voided due to fouls, her third leap came in at 11.21 meters (36-9 ½), besting the rest of the competition by over half a meter en route to her fourth NCAC title, capturing both the long jump and the triple jump crowns in back to back years.

In addition to her two wins, Soric was also named the 2024 NCAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after the conclusion of the meet. This is her second consecutive conference honor, becoming the first woman in Kenyon's history to win the award more than once.

On the track, Kauffman claimed the conference title for Kenony in the 800-meter. After winning the preliminary race on Friday, the senior backed it up and ran a speedy 2:22.64 time to beat the seven other opponents and earn 10 points toward the team's point total.

As for the rest of the mid/distance events, Anna Brown had a strong showing for the Owls, taking third in the 800-meter with a 2:24.61 run, scoring six points. In the one-mile race, Brown finished second by just four seconds, as the 5:19.48 time took home eight more points.

First-year Olivia Ide ran a 10:28.50 in the 3,000-meter which placed her third in the field of 18 NCAC runners and added six points for Kenyon.

For the relay races, Kenyon added four more points with a pair of seventh-place finishes. The team of Caroline Hitsman, Sadie Olson, Isabella Roach, and Soric ran the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:57.92. In the 4x400, Brown, Kauffman, Caeleigh Stamper, and Rigby Zentner finished in 4:18.71.

In total, Kenyon tallied 59 points over the two-day event, good enough for a sixth-place finish in the conference. Wittenberg University (191.5) took home the 2024 title, as DePauw University (162), and Ohio Wesleyan University (81.5) claimed second and third. The College of Wooster (79) took fourth, Denison University finished fifth (69), while Oberlin College (56) and Hiram College (4) rounded out the leaderboard.
