Kenyon first-years impressive at Marv Frye Invite

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Eight different student-athletes scored points Saturday for the Kenyon College women's track and field team, which totaled a score of 33 and placed seventh in the 10-team field at Ohio Wesleyan University's annual Marv Frye Invitational.

Kenyon's top individual result came from junior Paula Soric, who won the triple jump and earned 10 points. Soric came out with a 36-2 ¼ (11.03-meter) measurement on her first attempt and that held up as the winning jump.

The Owls only other scoring athlete in field events was first-year Alessandra Murray, who launched the javelin 94-7 (28.83 meters) for a seventh-place finish and two team points.

On the track, the Owls scored 10 team points in two different events. The first of the two was the mile run. In that race, sophomore Anna Brown posted a personal-best time of 5:17.39 and claimed third place. Right behind her was first-year Olivia Ide, who clocked in at 5:29.40. That time was another personal best and earned Ide a fifth-place finish.

The other 10-point event for Kenyon was the 5,000-meter. In that race, first-year Penny Griffioen claimed fourth place with a time of 19:57.06. Classmates Amelia Sims and Hannah Gross were next to cross the line for the Owls. Sims finished in 19:59.94 for fifth place and Gross turned in a time of 21:11.91 for eighth place.

Kenyon also got one point from Isabella Roach, also a first-year. She took eighth place in the 100-meter sprint, clocking in at 13.83.

Host Ohio Wesleyan ended up winning the Invitational with 160 team points. Case Western Reserve University was second with 152 points and Baldwin Wallace University with third, scoring 100 points.

Kenyon will end up right back at Ohio Wesleyan again next weekend for the All-Ohio Championship.
