Brown paces Kenyon at Steemer Showcase

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's indoor track and field team registered seven top-10 event finishes, scored 17 team points, and finished in eighth place at Wittenberg University's Steemer Showcase.

Headlining the results for the Owls was junior Anna Brown who was champion of the 800-meter run. She whipped around the oval in a season-best time of 2:16.42 and won the event by a half second in a field of 48 other participants.

Kenyon's next-best showing came from senior Paula Soric, who posted a second-place finish in the triple jump. Her effort of 37-2¼ (11.33 meters) was a season-best and was topped only by Serena McNeilly of Centre College, who won the event with a measurement of 38-8¼ (11.79 meters).

Back on the track Olivia Ide and Ariella Sobel rang up fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Ide, a sophomore, did so in the 5,000-meter race, which she completed in 18:18.49. Sobel, a first-year, did so in the 400-meter dash, an event she finished in 1:00.52. Both those times were season-bests, as well.

Kenyon also fared well in the 4x400-meter relay. The Owls sent out Sobel and Brown to pair with Rigby Zentner and Addilyn Tober. Those four came back with a time of 4:16.43, which was good for sixth place.

The team's other two top-10 finishes came from first year Penelope Artemis. She placed ninth in the shot put with a heave that traveled 36-6¼ (11.13 meters) and 10th in the weight throw with a toss of 41-3¾ (12.59 meters).

Next Saturday, the Owls will be back in action, competing in the Bob Shannon Invitational at Denison University.
