Owls overpower Eagles for ranked win

Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Kenyon College men's tennis team faced off against their second ranked opponent in as many matches Friday afternoon, taking on No. 27 University of Mary Washington in a neutral site match. 

The Owls took care of business in singles and doubles matches for the team's ninth win of the year, dispatching the Eagles 5-2. 

Kenyon started off strong in doubles, snatching wins in the first two flights to secure the match's opening point. Paulo Pocasangre Kreling and Alejandro Gonzalez dispatched the No. 1 duo 6-4 to open the match strong. 

Although the third flight of Rishil Kondapaneni and Gianluca Bocanegra fell 6-3, Josh Finkle and Jay Kedar Dixit came back in the No. 2 flight to win the frame 6-4 and give the Owls an early edge. 

Pocasangre Kreling continued his strong stretch of tennis in singles, defeating his opponent 6-2 in the first game and 6-3 in the second in the No. 1 flight. Similar results were posted in the second and third flights, as Gonzalez backed up his doubles win with a 7-6, 6-0 victory in the two slot while Kondapaneni bounced back with a 7-6, 6-1 winner in the third flight to secure the Owls win. 

In the fourth and fifth flights, Kenyon dropped both matches as Juozas Cioladis was sent down 6-4, 6-4 and Bocanegra fell 6-4, 6-4 respectively. However, Rakkan Audeh topped his opponent in the sixth flight 6-4, 6-4 to end the day on a high note. 

The Owls move to 9-1 on the season. Kenyon is back on the courts on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 pm against No. 21 Christopher Newport University.
