Owls control Captains in ranked road test

Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Kenyon College men's tennis team had its third of seven straight ranked matches on Saturday afternoon, continuing the streak with the second of three games in Newport News, Virginia against host No. 21 Christopher Newport University. 

The Owls again turned in a strong performance against a ranked opponent to improve to 10-1 on the season, besting the Captains 5-2 on their own courts. 

In doubles, the leading duo of Paulo Pocasangre Kreling and Alejandro Gonzalez picked up right where they left off yesterday, capturing a 6-1 victory in the leading flight. Although Jay Kedar Dixit and Rishil Kondapaneni could not close the deal in their third flight 6-3, Josh Finkle and Eric Zhang took care of business handedly in the No. 2 flight, dispatching their opponents 6-2 to get Kenyon the opening point. 

Pocasangre Kreling controlled his match with ease in the No. 1 singles flight, taking home a 6-3, 6-0 winner to get the Owls ahead. Following him up was Gonzalez in the second flight, also meeting little resistance with a 6-2, 6-2 winner. 

Kondapaneni bounced back in his No. 3 singles flight, matching Gonzalez with a 6-2, 6-2 victory for Kenyon to take a 4-1 lead in the match, securing a victory. 

In the fourth slot, Juozas Cioladis fell 6-4, 6-2, while Zhang nearly completed a comeback in the fifth. He fell 6-1 in the opener, charged to a 6-3 victory in the second set, but ultimately dropped the third 6-4. Rakkan Audeh turned in another victory in the No. 6 flight to match his winner yesterday, taking a 7-6, 6-3 victory. 

Kenyon improves to 10-1 with the victory. The Owls will conclude its trio of games in Virginia at noon on Sunday, March 23 against No. 28 Wesleyan University.
