CSC includes three Owls among academic honorees

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Justine Cole, Maren Lawrence, and Casey Master, all key members of the Kenyon College field hockey team this past season, were named Tuesday to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2024-25 NCAA Division III At-Large Academic All-District Team. For all three, the CSC recognition was the first of their career.

In order to be considered for the At-Large Academic All-District Team, a nominee had to be on the team's active roster for at least two years and had to possess at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Additionally, for field hockey, a nominee had to compete in 90 percent of the team's total games and/or start 66 percent of those games.

The CSC At-Large program includes nominees from a dozen different NCAA women's sports (two of which Kenyon currently offers), and limits each institution to a total of six nominees. Kenyon filled that allotment with the three field hockey honorees, as well as three more from the women's lacrosse team.

Cole, who just graduated with a degree in molecular biology, was a leader in the midfield and started all 16 games for the Owls, who posted a 10-6 overall record, including a 6-4 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action. During the season, she logged her first career points with a goal against Concordia University and an assist against Washington and Jefferson College.

Lawrence and Master were sophomores during the 2024 season and both were heavily involved in the offensive attack. Lawrence played all 16 games, started eight of them, and ranked second on the team in points (26) and goals (12). Master, who started all 16 games, ranked third on the team in points (14) and goals (5). In the classroom, Lawrence majors in environmental studies, while Master majors in political science.

Prior to earning this academic award, both Cole and Lawrence were named to the All-NCAC team. Lawrence was selected as a member of the second team, while Cole landed a spot on the third team.
