KenyON THEIR WAY: Mackenzie Bruzzio

Note: KenyON THEIR WAY will be a weekly feature about Kenyon College senior student-athletes who, during this difficult time, will graduate and have mapped out the first steps of their career paths.
----------
Mackenzie Bruzzio is a four-year letterwinner and a three-time all-conference honoree for the Ladies volleyball team. Following graduation in May, she'll begin the application process for medical school. During her time between Kenyon and medical school, she'll be in Mexico working with Partners in Health as part of the Chronic Disease Program. In her previous four years on the volleyball court, Bruzzio was both reliable and versatile. She played in 108 career matches and amassed 1,043 kills and 907 digs. In the Ladies' record book, she ranks sixth all-time in kills, fifth in kills per set (2.81), sixth in attempts (3,257) and eighth in attack percentage (.177). This past season, she led the team in kills (279), ranked second in digs (318) and fifth in blocks (33).

Mackenzie BruzzioMajors: Biochemistry and Spanish
Job Title: Chronic Disease Management Volunteer
Employer: Partners in Health
Location: Chiapas, Mexico

Job Description: The CES Chronic Disease Program focuses on improving clinical care and providing support for patients with chronic noncommunicable diseases. I will be responsible for coordinating program monitoring and evaluation, management of data collection logistics, communication with clinic physicians around patient data, and support of program structure development. I will also support the Shared Medical Appointment program for patients with diabetes.

Kenyon's role: Kenyon has prepared me to take on this role by allowing me to study two completely different subjects relatively easily. The liberal arts model at Kenyon allowed me to explore different disciplines and discover what really excites me. This position is the perfect use of the skills that I gained in both majors! Furthermore, the rigor of being a student-athlete at Kenyon has forced me to become comfortable in challenging situations. I believe this trait will definitely help me in this position because I will be moving abroad for the first time and the role itself requires quick learning and perseverance.

What I'll never forget about Kenyon: I will never forget all of the amazing friends I have made in my time at Kenyon. Even though we are far away from each other right now, I know that the people I met in Gambier will always be a part of my life.
