There were few who could match the feat accomplished by John Furniss during the 1926 track and field season. As one of the premier javelin throwers in the Midwest, Furniss tossed the spear a Kenyon-record 178 feet during spring competition. It was a record that stood for more than six decades before finally being broken in 1987. Furniss earned four varsity letters in track and field and was a member of Kenyon's 1924 team that placed second in the Ohio Relays.
