An 18-time All-American and 11-time national champion, Tom Rushton was the first, and remains the only, swimmer in NCAA Division III history to claim the 500-yard freestyle national title four consecutive years. As a freshman, he took his first title in the event, winning with a time of 4:32.99. His next three titles in the event were all won with improved times, including his senior year in which he posted a 4:26.43. Rushton also won back-to-back NCAA titles in the 400-yard individual medley (1999, 2000) and collected five career relay titles, including three straight in the 800-yard freestyle relay (1999, 2000, 2001) and two straight in the 400-yard medley relay (2000, 2001).
