There are very few women in the history of intercollegiate athletics who have done what Karen Burke did for Kenyon. Truly the pioneer in women's athletics at the College, Burke coached four different sports all at the same time. It began with field hockey in the fall of 1972 and included lacrosse in the spring of 1973. In the fall of 1973, she took on the responsibility of coaching volleyball, then moved right into the first year of intercollegiate basketball in the winter. It was a herculean task that she performed for five of her eleven years at Kenyon.
