Swimmers and divers have earned many honors at Kenyon, but only Tim Bridgham owns the distinction of being the first NCAA Division III champion under the guidance of Coach Jim Steen. Bridgham captured the landmark title by churning through the 100-yard backstroke in Division III record time in 1977. A 22-time All-American and seven-time individual national titlist, Bridgham still ranks as Kenyon's only three-time national champion in the 100 back.
