Silas Axtell was among the first Kenyon student-athletes to take part in the building of both the Lords' soccer and lacrosse programs. With soccer starting in 1947 and lacrosse playing its first varsity schedule in 1948, Axtell and his teammates helped establish the groundwork for programs that are still successful today. On the soccer field, Axtell became Kenyon's first All-America athlete in 1951. During his lacrosse career, Axtell and the Lords posted a combined record of 22-6-2, an astounding accomplishment for a fledgling program.
