Brian Dowdall's swimming talents led to success in several events, but his forte was pure speed. Throughout his career, Dowdall racked up five individual NCAA Division III titles and 11 national relay titles. Even more impressive, however, is the fact that he leads all Lord swimmers with 28 All-America awards – the most possible by one swimmer. By the time he graduated, Dowdall had established five Kenyon records, six NCAC records, and four NCAA records.
